Facebook’s Lookalike AudiencesLast Updated: March 26, 2013
Facebook has recently pitched an advertising opportunity. Facebook has proclaimed that they can offer businesses the chance to focus on who their actual customers are, and a method to fully apply their marketing strategy to, beyond analytics. They can target making advertisements appear on the walls of those who are most likely to be swayed by their sales pitch, as well as ‘facebook lookalikes‘ – people who have similar interests to that of the company. In other words, they are people who ‘look’ like their customers.
They can even target those who are currently customers of their competitors to try and convert them, as well as determine the difference betweens the hardcore and occasional buyer of a brand. Of course, this advertising method does not give away the names or any other sensitive information of the Facebook user in question. It should be noted that specific information about the user is not shared with advertisers. The process that Facebook is now pitching works by the user being identified through Facebook, and then that user is matched to a brand through Facebook’s partner Datalogix. This could potentially be a very great benefit to advertisers who use Facebook for business.Google+
