It is one of the busiest cities in the UK, in terms of tourism, business and population. Manchester is also graced with a range of top-class offices, which are fascinating works of design, created for some of the UK’s best known brands and companies. Here are just 6 of the workspaces that make Manchester a world-leader in office innovation.
OBI Property created this showcase for office innovation—a workspace layout for car rental company Rentalcars.com, which invested £2.7m in the workplace’s makeover. Among the facilities for employees are an open-air cinema, pool tables, free food and a beach area. The renovation was carried out to celebrate Rentalcars’ 10th anniversary, and to reward its workforce of more than 1,000 employees.
UK server hosting company, Melbourne, opted for a childlike visual theme in its Manchester offices. With bright colours throughout, the workplace includes a spacious lounge, modern library, playfully themed garden and entrance, as well as a beanbag zone and pool table.
3. BBC North
The award-winning interior design group, ID:SR created this fantastic layout for BBC North after being asked to design a vibrant workplace. ID:SR took interest in both the digital colour palette and the natural colours found in British-sourced fabrics. With such distinctive, lively features as circular sofas, colourful social areas and highly decorated meeting rooms, these working areas are sure to be a daily source of delight for the BBC’s large Manchester team of over 3,000 employees. A particularly creative example of Manchester office innovation.
Staff at BrightHR are treated to a range of facilities that spur employee productivity. Among the fun features are a ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’-themed garden, football nets, space hoppers and NERF guns. This is one company where the ‘human resources’ department certainly lives up to its name! It’s also a workspace that is the very embodiment of office innovation.

6. Rochdale Boroughwide Housing
Whitespace Architects was given the job of furnishing Rochdale Boroughwide Housing‘s building, working to a modern, creative and flexible design style that has created a vibrant, inspirational environment for employees. The design firm’s brief also included a furniture package, ensuring a unified feel throughout the building.
