The Reading region, in particular its town centre, is one of the UK’s top locations to live and do business in. Significant among the reasons for its desirability as a working location are the numerous stunningly designed offices to be found throughout Reading. At their best, these offices are true game-changers in the way workspaces function. Here are 6 of the best.
The south western English region of Reading has emerged from a decade-long business regeneration programme to become one of the regional economic powerhouses of the UK. This thriving town in Berkshire UK is not only home to a diverse commercial, retail and hospitality offering, but also in-town shopping centres. Reading’s business infrastructure is one of the strongest in the country, with a well integrated transport network, and stunning offices and business headquarters. There are no fewer than four major business parks in Reading, while there is more than 2m square feet of development under construction or in pipeline in the town centre, close to the city’s train station, one of the country’s busiest transport hubs. The big bonus for businesses is that premises cost almost two-thirds less than in central London. Many are designed with the closest attention to detail, in order to provide maximum motivation and inspiration for employees. Here are six amazing offices that make Reading town one of the cool workspace capitals of the world.
A carefully balanced approach was required for an expansion of workspace at international enterprise management software company OpenText’s European headquarters in Reading town. Although located on another floor of Open Text’s existing premises, workspace specialists Area Sq were required to work to a hybrid design scheme that integrated its previous work with brand guidelines used by architectural firm HOK for OpenText’s overseas offices. The new Reading office space, with its colour palette of walnut, corporate blues and whites, features breakout hubs, meeting rooms, a café and townhall space, while new materials, lighting and furniture also creates an experience that is just as exhilarating for visitors as it is for employees.
Fuze, a global provider of cloud-based business communications, relocated its European headquarters in Reading town to bolster its rapidly expanding UK and EU operations. The new Reading offices also had a symbolic purpose, as the blueprint for all future Fuze workspaces. The brief for the workspace design, created by Area Sq, was to facilitate smarter and simpler means of communication and collaboration, and to cater to the diverse requirements of Fuze’s eclectic workforce mix. The office is the last word in agile, with desk-based sharing and collaborative non-desk working environments, a huddle zone, a think-tank, with write-on walls, and an open breakout area.
3. KYOCERA Document Solutions
KYOCERA’s vision for their new building was to create an office space that reflected its brand and heritage, while also referencing the company’s cultural shift towards agile working. This was a project that KYOCERA was not going to rush. Workplace specialists Area Sq spent a period of 18 months assessing buildings in Reading town, before Eldon Court was chosen for its location and potential. The finished workplace incorporates an array of impressive features and facilities for clients and personnel alike, while its upper floors place staff wellbeing firmly front and centre, with collaborative zones, sofas, a café, informal working points, showers and even a games room.
wsh (Westbury Street Holdings), located in the Thames Valley area of Reading, is the parent company for a number of leading brands in food services and hospitality in the corporate, education and high street retail sectors. This new workspace was conceived by Blue Jelly as a testament to the alternative perspective and creative flair of wsh. A design that draws on contemporary catering and leisure environments, with materials and props rarely seen in traditional corporate spaces, the office is an engagingly vibrant ‘savvy’ environment that reflects the wsh brand and ethos, while also providing a warm and inspiring workspace for staff, suppliers and clients alike. It’s not only a highlight of offices in Reading town, but also in the entire UK.
